Lately: every time I turn around I come across something handmade that I love. I have to say that I feel slightly inadequate because I have no ability to sew, or crochet, or paint. Good thing there are plenty of crafty people out there to fill this void.

All of these were sitting on my desktop, just asking to be combined into one glorious mashup post of design and photography. Most of this stuff makes me wonder where my creativity is hiding. Sadly, none of it is by me.

I know, right?

I’ve decided to devote an entire wall, maybe two, to posters. Ever since I came to this conclusion, I’ve been searching for prints that tickle my fancy. And I thought I would share. My friends, feast your eyes on these:

And, my very favorite:

What to do now, you ask? Simple: go home and start your own poster wall.

Beautiful Angle is incredible. Tacoma’s guerilla letterpress duo, made up of Tom Llewellyn and Lance Kagey, have been plastering the city’s telephone poles for six years now. We are privileged enough to know both Tom and Lance, and are proud to bring you the tour of their studio.
Lance takes down posters that have dried.

The inspiration wall, including work by local and famous artists.

Lance and Chelsey discuss a poster design for an upcoming event.

The press bed.

Lance’s ink-mixing station sits atop cases and cases of type. The clothespins hold posters for drying.

A smaller inspiration board.

A face of wooden type and a guide to the case.

The X from Beautiful Angle’s most recent Christmas broadside.

A shelf of paper, misprints and surplus posters.

Sometimes tweezers are the easiest way to handle a small piece of lead for letterspacing.

Chelsey inks a locked bed of type.

Lance runs some lovely paperstock through his smallest press.

The piece printed on chipboard. It’s all about the impression.

A cabinet of Beautiful Angle masterpieces.

A Lance Kagey original from 1983.

Studio lights above the largest press.

It’s been a while, so I thought I’d hop on over to Threadless to check out what’s going on. Feast your eyes on this stuff, which is – undeniably – just plain awesome.
Firstly, prints:

And, of course, tees:

The beauty part of Threadless is that unknown designers can submit their own ideas, get enough votes, and have them printed. When I get some free time, I’m going to try it myself.
